On April 7th, members of the Board met with Dr. Mimi Silbert, CEO and Founder of Delancey Street Foundation to present her with a donation of $1,000. Funds were raised during our charity raffle at All Industry Day on March 4th.
Delancey Street Foundation is considered the country's leading residential self-help organization for substance abusers, ex-convicts, homeless and others who have hit bottom. For over 40 years they have been developing a model of social entrepreneurship, of education, of rehabilitation and change that is exciting and full of hope. They have locations in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New Mexico, North Carolina, New York and Boston.
During the visit, Mimi shared that her most memorable success stories are the day-to-day wins with each of her residents. Some graduates of Delancey Street have gone on to become doctors!
Individuals wanting a tour of the facility or who are interested in offering their skills in a classroom setting (e.g. music, resume writing, office skills, etc.) are encouraged to contact the facility.
Delancey is completely self sustaining with no staff or support from government grants or funding. Their moving services and Christmas tree lots are renowned.
Golden Gate CPCU is honored to provide some assistance to Delancey Street this year.
